Saluting Valda Sweeney for Long Service |
Help us recognise Ms. Valda Sweeney for commitment to the Credit Union movement.
Valda Sweeney began her Credit Union career in 1977 as an updating clerk at the Roseau Cooperative Credit Union Ltd. Over the years, she worked in various departments including Loans, Operations and Accounts.
In 2005 she took up the position of Accountant at the St. Paul Cooperative Credit Union Ltd. (SPCCUL) and two years later was promoted to the position of General Manager.
When SPCCUL and four other credit unions amalgamated in 2010 to form the NCCU, Ms. Sweeney was appointed as the St. Paul Branch Manager. She was later transferred to the La Salette Branch.
Ms. Sweeney comes from a Credit Union background and boasts of being the daughter of a founding member of the Credit Union movement in Dominica. She says, "Credit Unionism is in my DNA" and loves the motto "People helping people".
Ms. Sweeney is an enthusiastic Toastmaster and is affiliated to the International body and the Nature Isle Toastmasters Club. She was instrumental in establishing a club at the NCCU, the first corporate club in Dominica. This has placed NCCU among Fortune 500 companies, such as Coco Cola, with a Toastmasters Club.
